The 8 Most Common Roofing Sales Objections (and How to Answer Each One)

2026-05-12

Every roofing salesperson hears the same 8 objections, in roughly the same order. Here's how the top 1% of closers actually handle each one.

1. "I need to get a few more bids."

Don't say: "Sure, take your time."

Say: "Smart move — that's what I'd do. Quick question, though: what's the one thing you want to see in those bids that I haven't shown you yet? Let's address it now while we're together."

This either uncovers the real objection OR gets them to admit you've already covered everything.

2. "Your price is higher than the other guy."

Say: "I figured that might come up. Can I show you the three line items where my price is higher and explain why? If after that you still want to go with them, no hard feelings."

3. "We can't afford it right now."

Say: "Totally fair. Before we wrap up, can I show you the financing options? Most homeowners spend less per month on a new roof than they spend on their car payment."

4. "We want to wait until spring."

Say: "I get it. The thing is, every winter we get 3-5 calls from homeowners who waited and ended up with interior water damage. Even if you wait, can we at least schedule a follow-up inspection in [month] so we're ready when you are?"

5. "I want to talk to my spouse."

Don't say: "Sure, when's a good time to follow up?"

Say: "Of course — this is a big decision. Can we schedule the next conversation right now? If you're both available Saturday at 10am, I'll bring the proposal and the financing options together and we can answer any questions in one shot."

6. "I've heard insurance might cover this."

Say: "It might — and we work with insurance claims often. Want me to do a free inspection and tell you whether you have a legitimate claim before you call them? Filing a denied claim can raise your premiums, so it's worth knowing first."

7. "I'm not sure I trust your company yet."

Say: "Fair concern. Here's our license number, here's our Google reviews, and here are three customers in your zip code who'd be happy to take a call from you. Want me to text you their numbers?"

8. "Just send me an email."

Don't say: "Sure!" and walk away. That's a soft no.

Say: "Happy to. What's the one question I should answer in that email that would make this a yes for you?"

The Meta-Pattern

Every objection above has the same structure: acknowledge → reframe → ask for the next step. Never argue, never defend price, never walk away without a follow-up scheduled.
